ZWERK x SAIL
As part of SAIL Amsterdam 2025, Zwerk is a contemporary exhibition that offers a moment of calm between two of the day’s major events: the SAIL-In Parade and the evening concert at NDSM Wharf. Located along the main route between IJhaven and the concert site, this exhibition is perfectly placed for anyone seeking a reflective intermission before the next spectacle. Zwerk offers a different kind of experience: quiet, spacious, and open-ended. Come by for a few minutes or stay longer—this is a place to breathe, drift, and reorient.
Zwerk is a Dutch word that poetically refers to the sky — an ever-shifting expanse of drifting clouds that evokes notions of freedom, vastness, and boundlessness. Yet precisely within this openness of the sky lie states of disorientation, estrangement, a latent sense of threat, and the perception of human insignificance in the face of immensity. The exhibition explores these layered conditions through film, installation, painting, and photography.
The featured artists include Yael Bartana, Wangechi Mutu, Nicolas Provost, Wolfgang Tillmans, Thomas Ruff, Natalie Czech, Bhasha Chakrabarti, Matthew Day Jackson, Janis Avotins, Lieven Hendriks, Salvo, Dana Powell, and Henk Stallinga.
Special thanks to the artists and their representing galleries, private collectors and the Ekard collection.
